Last weekend the girls and I met up for our annual Christmas night out which we have been doing since we where 15. Every year we pick a different restaurant, organise the secret Santa and party the night away. It is even more so special now, due to us all living in different cities, and unfortunately for Harriet and Kat now living in the southern hemisphere, they were unable to attend. This year we headed to Brighton Proud ballroom, and had a gorgeous 3 course meal, whilst we were entertained by burlesque dancing, and an act that involved hula hoops, nipple tassels, and not much else. We even learnt a dance routine to One Direction. You don't get much better than that. Thanks girlies.

My Lovely mummy is a whizz with a needle and thread, and she made us this gorgeous advent calender. We used to have one at home as kids, and I'm so happy I now have one for our new home.
Thank you mum. You are the best. Love you xxx

a festive evening

I love me some Christmas over here, so I couldn’t wait to go and get the tree and get cracking with the decs. After waiting patiently all day Saturday (or not so) for Si to finish work, we ran out of time, so we spent Sunday afternoon searching for our perfect little tree. For some reason we passed a cute little area, at the side of the country road selling trees, and headed straight for B&Q, where I immediately felt guilty for giving my money to them, and not the little business on the side of the road. So I have given myself a mental slap, and have promised myself that I will not do the same next year. (Promise)
We spent the evening hanging fairy lights, watching Elf and talking about how we just can’t wait to Christmas this year. That’s right, I have officially turned Si into a Christmas lover, and I couldn’t be more excited to spend it together again.

Travel series: Oslo

Last week we made a cheap but slightly long Journey to the festive capital Oslo {which is in Norway I have found myself explaining} I managed to find some ridiculously cheap flights to Oslo, but soon discovered when we got there that it is extremely expensive, So expensive it has the honour of winning ‘the world’s most expensive city’ last year.

We did have a slight clue on price, and only took a small amount anyway, and just hoped we could get by on non extravagant meals, and not much alcohol. Well only one glass of wine was consumed whilst I was there, but I enjoyed not drinking to be honest. We chilled out massively in our beautiful room {with our Mac} and took strolls across the city, jumping into numerous coffee shops, markets and shops to keep out of the cold. We were lucky to get a few hours of snow whilst we where there, but thankfully it was unseasonably warm for December {minus 2} so we got of lucky.

If anyone is thinking of going, I REALLY recommend. As I said it is expensive {our 2 McDonalds Big Mac meals came to £20 quid, and a small glass of wine is £8} but it is a beautiful city, set in its traditional ways, and although there is plenty of shop chains and restaurants around, they are not splashed in your faces and it isn’t very commercial. For the time of year we went, you would expect to get pushed and shoved with the heaves of Christmas Shoppers, not in Oslo, it was quiet, tranquil and pleasant and it allowed us to completely relax for the weekend. What better way to end the holiday than watching the snow fall silently outside, whilst sitting by a raging fire in a quiet Norwegian bar, sipping on a glass of wine, chatting away whilst mellow Christmas music plays in the background. Heaven a tell you. Heaven.

For your next weekend break, I urge you to visit Oslo.

secret santa

So the lovely Laura over at keepinghealthygettingstylish came up with a lovely little idea to get us all into the spirit of Christmas. A Blogger Secret Santa of course. A simple idea of registering your details {with Laura} and then she gives you a random blogger to buy for, and then a random blogger will buy for you.
I sent off my little package last week {to Leigh} and I received my {slightly larger} package this weekend. I was excited to see what I had received, as I couldn’t even remember what I had written down for my likes and dislikes {I do remember not being very helpful though}
I opened the box in anticipation and was greeted with loads of beautifully wrapped presents {I instantly thought how rubbish my present has been} I discovered my package was from Annette over at cookiecrumbsandcarrotsticks and was delighted to see that she was a new blogger too. After trawling through her blog it revealed she was a big foodie {like me}, which explained some of my lovely gifts.

My gifts included,
*Yankee candles with gorgeous holders {perfect for my living room}
*Local Shortbread {I can’t wait to dunk them in my tea} leading nicely on to my Teapigs...popcorn and Chocolate flake teabags {how exciting}
*Yummy nibbles {spicy Moroccan seed and nut crackers and Mango pieces}
*Gingerbread {yummy, yummy looking gingerbread}
*Shortbread cutter and beautiful Christmas tree decorations all the way from Bruges {I am a lucky lady}

Oh and not forgetting the Christmas cracker {which I am saving for another day}
My new decorations where placed on the tree straight away, and when I get home from work tonight I will finally have time to indulge in some naughtiness in front of the TV {gingerbread men you have been warned}
So I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Annette for brightening my weekend, introducing me to some new things and making my tree look personal and pretty. I hope you received as thoughtful a present and have a wonderful Christmas {and keep up the blog, you make my mouth drool with all your food pictures}

a christmas tree

I couldn’t wait any longer; I mean I couldn’t wait at all. Back at home we used to put the tree up 2 weeks before Christmas, so that’s what I had in my head. But then I remembered, I am in my own place now, so technically I can do what I want. So I made the decision to go out and buy my first REAL tree {which took a lot of persuasion and puppy eyes with Si} and spent all night decorating the tree with my 220 baubles {yes I went slightly mad} Oh and might I add I done this all whilst watching Love Actually {melt} let’s just hope the tree lasts until the big day.

Has anyone else got their tree’s up yet?

1.      This trinket box is a cute stocking filler, or can be used as a little extra present for not much more dollar.
2.      This style guide has everything; anyone needs to know about fashion, and is a good keepsake.
3.      I actually personally own these lip balms {received in my stocking} and they are charming, vintage and smell gorgeous.
4.      I know not everyone enjoys baking, but to learn from the best is surely impressive. The pictures and easy descriptions will make anyone want to take up baking.
5.      The diary for life. {or so they say} I sturdy life journal to keep all your memories and thoughts over your life. It comes across well presented, and an original idea.
